Company Overview

Prime Medicine was founded to bring the promise of gene editing to patients. We use Prime Editing, a next-generation technology that can “search and replace” to restore normal genetic function almost anywhere in the genome. Prime Editing searches to find the precise place in the genome to edit and replaces the segment of faulty DNA with a correct copy of DNA.  A single Prime Editor can correct the individual mutations found across patients, meaning Prime Editing can potentially address more than 90 percent of known disease-causing genetic mutations.

We envision a world where this technology can cure, halt, and ultimately prevent genetic diseases, providing lifelong benefit to patients.  Prime Medicine offers the opportunity to shape the future of gene editing and transform how medicines are used to treat disease. Realizing the promise of Prime Editing requires a talented team with diversity of viewpoints and expertise. We’re building a group of dedicated, scientifically curious individuals who are passionate about helping patients live longer, healthier lives.

Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a motivated, independent, and experienced scientist to join our innovative and collaborative Hematology & Immunology team.  The scientist will contribute to a multidisciplinary program team focused on developing novel engineered prime edited ex vivo cell and in vivo therapies. The candidate for this multifaceted role will drive novel early hematology research projects, collaborate with the hematology team to advance the late-stage pre-clinical program, and will work with other scientists and project teams to develop and run flow cytometry analysis of cellular immunophenotypes and fluorescence activated cell sorting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive the development of hematology research studies
  • Design, plan, and run studies with human CD34+ hematopoietic stem progenitor cells
  • Culture and engineer human cell lines and human HSPCs
  • Design and lead animal studies in collaboration with the in vivo pharmacology team
  • Design, qualify, validate, and run immunophenotyping by flow cytometry analysis and cell sorting assays (multi-parameter flow cytometry including cell separation/sorting)
  • Train in advanced flow cytometry methods to support scientists in study design and data collection and coordinate maintenance of and training users on best practices of flow cytometry and FACS-based cell enrichment
  • Write and validate standard operating procedures for use of flow cytometry instrumentation
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret complex data sets into a form that is appropriate for the communication to relevant teams and stakeholders
  • Manage inventory for materials, reagents, and consumables for flow cytometry core facility
  • Maintain detailed documentation of experiments in ELN system
  • Present data and findings to internal and external scientific groups

Qualifications:

  • A PhD with 6+ years of relevant postgraduate experience
  • 4+ years of industry experience in hematology or immunology, preferred
  • Strong publication and presentation record with engagement in national scientific societies
  • Experience with human cell culture techniques and study design/optimization including:
    • Primary human hematopoietic and immune cell culture, expansion, and differentiation
    • Multi-parameter flow cytometry including cell separation/sorting
    • Functional assays of stem cell and/or immune cell function
  • Proficiency in molecular biology skills, including PCR, qPCR, DNA, and RNA isolation.
  • Experience collaborating on cross-functional teams, willingness to roll-up-sleeves to get things done.
  • Strong oral, written, and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
