Prime Medicine was founded to bring the promise of gene editing to patients. We use Prime Editing, a next-generation technology that can “search and replace” to restore normal genetic function almost anywhere in the genome. Prime Editing searches to find the precise place in the genome to edit and replaces the segment of faulty DNA with a correct copy of DNA.  A single Prime Editor can correct the individual mutations found across patients, meaning Prime Editing can potentially address more than 90 percent of known disease-causing genetic mutations.

Position Overview:

Prime Medicine is seeking a co-op for the Spring 2023 semester with experience in biochemistry and molecular biology to join the Prime Editing Platform team. The candidate will be involved in characterizing and engineering novel RNA-guided endonucleases for use as Prime Editing components.

We want curious problem solvers who enjoy working on exciting projects, working within a team and are passionate about developing genetic editing technologies to better human health and well-being.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, optimize, and execute in-vitro assays for RNA guided nucleases such as activity screening, enzyme activity kinetics and enzyme binding kinetics.
  • Perform all aspects of molecular biology, cloning and nucleic acid purification (e.g., primer design, PCR, vector construction, agarose gel electrophoresis, plasmid prep)
  • Compile experimental summaries and present to members of the Prime Editing Platform team
  • Keep meticulous experimental records and document in electronic lab notebooks (ELN)
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements and procedures, assist in maintaining general laboratory functionality


  • Finishing a BS or MS in Molecular Biology/Engineering/Biochemistry
  • Experience in molecular biology and molecular cloning (primer design, PCR, plasmid assembly, e coli transformation and cultivation, DNA purification)
  • Experience in enzyme characterization (Western blot and SDS-PAGE)
  • Experience with manipulation and characterization of DNA/RNA (native and denaturing gel electrophoresis and NGS and Sanger sequencing)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mammalian cell tissue culture (e.g., HEK293T cells)
  • Familiarity with DNA analysis software (e.g., Snapgene, Geneious, Vector NT, Primer 3) and data analysis software (e.g., Graphpad Prism, Flowjo)
  • Demonstrated maturity and scientific contributions within a complex matrixed organization
